Remembrance Day 8th November, Late Night shopping & Lights of Love 27th November ...

Well, the clocks have gone back, and it is getting dark much earlier, a sure sign that winter is well and truly on its way. However, with Climate Change who can predict what type of winter we will have if October is anything to go by. We still have Roses in bud and plants that should be dying back at this time of year are sprouting new growth, strange and confusing for the plants.

Our new executive committee member, Pam Hibberd and I had a meeting with the Head of Freman College, Mr Mark Norman and Head of Art, Mr Chris Moody, with a view to running a photographic competition sponsored by the Society. If agreed by the Town Council, it is envisaged that the winners of the competition will have their entries displayed in the Seth Ward Community Centre. More detail to come later.

On the planning front, the Planning appeal by Hallam Land to build 660 dwellings on land west of the A10, north of the A 507, was allowed by the Planning Inspector. To view the inspectors decision please visit the East Herts Distrct Council website at: https://eastherts.fra1.digitaloceanspaces.com/s3fs-public/2026-09/6008238%20-%20Appeal%20Decision_0.pdf . Alternatively you can either visit the Town Council offices in person and ask to see a copy of the document or they can send you an electronic copy by email. Suffice to say that the decision is extremely disappointing as the arguments against the application were deemed to be robust.

The candidate that was elected to the Town Council at the recent by-election for the vacancy on the Town Council is Nicola Dix. Our congratulations to Nicola and we hope that she enjoys her time serving on the Council. We are sure that she will be a great assett to the Council and the Town.

Up coming events this month are the Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorial to be held on Sunday 8th November, Lights of Love at the Manor House, Late Night Shopping and the Christmas Lights switch all on the 27th November.
