For those of you that couldn't attend the Service of Remembrance on Sunday the 9th November, it was really gratifying to see the number of people that did attend, especially the children from the schools and other organisations within the town. Our treasurer, Janet Murrels supported by Terry Noble, laid a wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of the Civic Society.

By the time you read this article we should be well into the Christmas celebrations and I am sure that the 3 events on Friday 28th November, Lights of Love, Christmas lights "switch on" and the Late Night Shopping were, as usual, really successful and well attended.

As this is the last Journal of 2025, double issue, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members and those that buy the Journal, a peaceful and trouble free Christmas period, especially if it is spent with friends or relatives. Unfortunately this time of year can be very lonely for those among us that live alone and I would like to take this opportunity to ask anyone that knows of a neighbour that will be alone over Christmas, just give them a knock to let them know that they are being thought of, you would be surprised what a difference it makes to their day, even better if you can share a part of your day with them.

The New Year, 2026, is a special year for the Buntingford Journal, it will celebrate its 50th year in production. As has been previously mentioned, we hope to reproduce the first Journal, printed in January 1976, to accompany the February 2026 issue and this will be delivered, to members, along with a newsletter at the end of January.

Just a reminder that it costs more to buy your Journal at one of the retail outlets than it does to join the Society. If you buy the Journal monthly, that’s 10 issues per year, £12.50 but if you join the Society the cost is £10 per year and the Journal gets delivered to your door by our team of volunteer distributors, worth thinking about!!!!

Finally, from the Executive Committee, we wish you a Happy Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year, 2026.

Graham Waite, Chairman, Buntingford Civic Society
