Have a Voice - Turbulent Times.

Farewell Ruth Kelly (one time Housing Minister), hullo again Margaret Beckett, the new Housing Minister. One wonders if there is any chance that Ruth Kelly's overrule of the Inspector's Report on Harlow North will now be reversed? Her decision is flawed and if sustained would have serious implications for the future of this part of Hertfordshire.

The Mercury in early October carried three strongly worded letters. One from Cllr. Jon Ling, another from Clyde Millard and a third from Steve Hall. Each letter really expressed the same irritation which is, why does EHDC act in such an arbitrary manner in respect of Buntingford? A current example is the demise of Buntingford CAB. This is an appalling decision. Many vulnerable people will not easily access the 'outsource' option as against 'drop-in'.

These are turbulent times and in an economically challenging period we would welcome clear leadership from EHDC for the greater good of all communities both large and small.

A recent high spot was a day of mock interviews at Freman College. The interviewers were pleased to give something back and the student interviewees really valued the learning experience. Overall an excellent example of College/Town engagement and what an impressive bunch of students that in a real situation one would wish to see again.

Derek K Cooper, Chairman.
