JuneTONS OF BENEFITSWith a bit of luck most members of the Civic Society will have renewed their subscriptions and more families have joined to make the Society even stronger. We have been asked why we are requesting e-mail addresses and the explanation is simple it is to develop a means together with our web-site of obtaining members views on the increasingly complex issues we face in respect of environment, planning and heritage. The benefits of membership go beyond the delivery of your Buntingford Journal your committee is engaged on your behalf in funding repairs of local artefacts, funding repairs to childrens' play-areas, providing grants-in-aid to other local organisations ( a good recent example is the Scout Plaque ). Two clean-ups of the River Rib have been completed to the benefit of everybody in the Town. We expect to have annual campaigns on the Rib not least because Buntingford is now designated as part of Hidden Britain and the Civic Society is in the consultation loop and the Journal a medium for sharing information. So,there are many benefits from membership which might not be too obvious, and if you agree recruit friends and neighbours join in supporting the good work. Our AGM was a success and we are grateful to Brian Thomsett, Head of Planning Policy at EHC for his presentation on the recently approved Local Plan. The near future requires a Local Development Framework which means a considerable amount of consultation and this perhaps will trigger the preparation of a Town Plan to inform the LDF being prepared by EHC. At the AGM a request was made to publish your committee member's names. T here are currently two vacancies.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Town Council and look forward to working with them for the betterment of Buntingford. Derek K Cooper, Chairman. |
