Have a Voice - Education, Education, Education

Some years ago, if I recall correctly, there was a pop song entitled 'We don't need no education'. It is evident that we do need education and the lack of school places at all levels is a cause of concern to Cllr Mike Carver (Chairman, District Planning Executive Committee) and the team developing the District Plan, so much so that that it is possible that the District Plan will not be completed by the target date (HCC and the neighbouring Districts have a key role in this exercise). The lack of an agreed District Plan is simply an open door for opportunistic developers to forge ahead with their plans without much interest in the future of our community.

Against the background of serious concerns regarding school places throughout East Herts, as well as transport, highways and overall infrastructure gaps, it is difficult to comprehend Kevin Steptoe (Head of Planning and Building Control Services) and his team endorsing large developments in Buntingford. There is clearly a lack of consistency between strategy development and tactical implementation and its impact on us all.

BCS recommend that you review the core strategy document produced by BCS, BARD, the Buntingford Chamber of Commerce and Buntingford Town Council, which can be viewed here. The document, which has had professional overview, supports North and South development with limited Western development in Buntingford and and is the basis of a Neighbourhood Plan. We aim to protect the Rib Valley landscape heritage for future generations.

We are talking about the development of our community to 2031 - it is essential that we all become engaged in this process. Let's ensure that 'Localism' really works.

Derek K Cooper,

Chairman, Buntingford Civic Society
