Chairman of Civic Trust
awarded
Philip Kolvin, Chairman of the Civic Trust will take
silk after a formal swearing-in ceremony before the Lord
Chancellor at a ceremony at Westminster Hall.
Philip has been Chairman of the Civic Trust since
2007 and is a practising barrister and Head of Licensing
at the Chambers of Mark Lowe QC, Grays Inn Square,
London. Philip is also Chairman of the Institute of
Licensing, and has a particular interest in the night
time economy and how it impacts on local communities.
Philip has been instrumental in the development of the
Civic Trust's Purple Flag Accreditation, which will be
launched in 2009, and which is awarded to town and city
centres that have achieved a safe, vibrant and inclusive
evening economy.
Philip has a long standing interest in the
environment, and has served as a national Trustee of the
Campaign to Protect Rural England. He has been involved
in a number of campaigns, including the Crystal Palace
Campaign whcih successfully prevented the building of a
multiplex cinema on an historic park.

Griff Rhys Jones Fundraising
Appeal
The Civic Trust is delighted to announce that
another 15 civic societies have pledged support in the
past two weeks to the Griff Rhys Jones Fundraising
Appeal. If your civic society would like to support the
appeal please contact Ian Harvey at helpdesk@civictrust.org.uk or on
0151 231 6908. Money raised through this
fundraising appeal will enable the Civic Trust to
provide better support to your civic society and will
allow us to recruit policy and campaign staff dedicated
to the civic society movement.

Anniversary
In 2009, the Civic Trust Awards is celebrating
the 50th Anniversary and to commemorate this, we have
published a video celebrating the 40th Anniversary
winner, Cornmill Gardens, Tower Hamlets.

Civic Trust Annual Review
2008
The Civic Trust has launched its Review of Activities
2008, which highlights the successes of the Trust and
our members. From the Civic Trust Awards scheme to
Heritage Open Days, the Civic Trust and its members have
worked hard to create and celebrate better places for
people.
